LUTERBACH, SWITZERLAND – January 24, 2006 – By offering the MICROSPACE®-PC VALUE 855 (MPCV855), the Swiss-based company DIGITAL-LOGIC is extending its extremely successful MICROSPACE-PC product line by an embedded controller that is based on the proven EPIC standard. The computer has no cooling fan; instead it relies solely on passive cooling techniques. This makes it the ideal solution for reliable, cost-effective long-term operation in industrial and commercial applications.

The new MPCV855 features an optimal price/performance ratio and high product quality. The computer is based on the i855GME chip set and uses a 600 or 800MHz Intel processor. The device is equipped with 256MB of main memory, but this can be expanded to 512MB or 1GB DDR RAM. The field of applications is almost unlimited due to state-of-art features – such as four USB V2.0 ports, eight digital I/Os, two RS232C interfaces, dual LAN with a 100/10Base-T-Ethernet and a 1 Gbit Ethernet port – and due to the fact that the customer has the option of using the two PC/104-Plus sockets and a MiniPCI socket to integrate individual features.

For display, this embedded computer uses the “extreme graphic” video controller that is integrated into the i855GME chip set and offers a video memory of up to 64MB. The controller has two separate video outputs (standard VGA and 18-bit LVDS), which may be connected simultaneously to display the same image twice or two images separately. A 2.5″-hard disk with a storage capacity of up to 100GB is available as mass storage. For assembly with solid-state memory cards instead of the hard disk, this embedded computer includes a CompactFlash slot type I/II. The optional CAN V2.0 bus controller facilitates expansion of the digital and analog[] I/O capabilities, for instance for building a soft PLC. To make it easier to replace the hard disk, boost RAM capacity, or add functions using PC/104-Plus and MiniPCI, the MPCV855’s case can be opened in no time, and upgrades can be performed in a fast and user-friendly manner.

Besides the basic MPCV855 model, this computer is also available in an “industrial” or “multimedia” version. The industrial variant, the MPCV855I, additionally provides two opto-isolated RS422/RS485 ports and a printer interface. The MPCV855M multimedia model offers a 24-bit DVI interface, TV output and an AC97-compatible audio controller with 5.1 sound and SPDif output.

The MPCV855 weighs just 3 kg and has dimensions of 290mm x 145mm x 79mm (W x L x H). The computer is supplied by a voltage of 9VDC to 30VDC and can, therefore, be used in switch cabinets as well as in battery-powered systems. For connection to the supply voltage, a 110/240V power supply adapter is available. Designed for low power consumption (typically 15 watts), this CE-certified device operates within the standard temperature range of 0°C to +50°C. The MPCV855 is compatible with every standard Pentium®; PC and runs all common operating systems, such as Windows®; XP, QNX®;, Linux[], etc.

For evaluation purposes, DIGITAL-LOGIC offers the base model of the MPCV855 with 256MB RAM and a 40GB hard disk at a price of 599 euro plus VAT (one unit per customer). Samples of this embedded computer will be available beginning in February 2006. Production quantities will be available beginning in March 2006 at a price of 799 euro plus VAT per unit and at a price of 699 euro plus VAT for orders of 100 or more units per lot.
