Secura Key Picks Luminary Micro's Stellaris MCUs for RFID Reader and Access Control Products
1 year 5 months ago

AUSTIN, TX, USA – September 9, 2008 – Luminary Micro and Secura Key announced today that Secura Key has chosen Luminary Micros award-winning Stellaris microcontrollers for its new RFID reader and access control products.

“Secura Key has emerged as a leading manufacturer of RFID products for Security, asset management, and automatic data collection applications. We are proud that Secura Key chose our Stellaris microcontrollers for their new RFID reader and access control products,” said Jean Anne Booth, Chief Marketing Officer of Luminary Micro.

Luminary Micros Stellaris microcontrollers are a key component of Secura Keys new mid-range RFID reader, which creates a whole new product category in the RFID reader market. Traditional low-wattage RFID readers provide a 3”-5” read range in the $100-$300 price range, while high-wattage readers provide up to 36” read range for $1000-$3000. Secura Keys newest e-Tag® product provides a 10”-12” extended read range for contactless smart card readers at the price of traditional low-wattage readers, creating a whole new category of cost-effective extended read range products. Secura Keys new e-Tag® product will be introduced at ASIS next week in Atlanta Georgia.

Secura Key has also used Stellaris MCUs in new access control products, enabling the deployment of a system of secured elevator controls that manage up to 130 floors with badge readers. The new product will be available early next year.

“We chose to use Luminary Micros Stellaris microcontrollers because they allow us to reuse common software as we cost-effectively improve features across our entire range of reader and access control products,” said Randy Watkins, Vice President of Engineering at Secura Key. “We were looking for a broad range of cost-effective software-compatible high-performance 32-bit microcontrollers with many options for communication and control, and only Luminary Micro had a portfolio that matched our needs for today and tomorrow. Our firmware engineers loved the Stellaris Driver Library software and Luminary Micros engineering support.”
